Shopping in Lisbon

Lisbon is considered to be the cheapest capital of Europe. Despite the fact that new, modern shopping malls have taken over the Portuguese market, tha old, traditional, small shops in the center of the city preserve their typical character. Shops like that are mainly found in the Bairro Alto and some of them are Luvaria Ulises, Ourivesaria Alianna, Casa das Velas do Loreto. The best buys you can do in Lisbon are mainly leather products and handmade objects which can also be excellent souvenirs. Look for ancient tiles with unique paintings on them, typical portuguese mentality ceramics and textiles and pure gold objects, since gold will be at least 19,2 carats!


If you are interested in fashion, then you should visit Avenida da Liberdade. In Bairro Alto and Chiado you will find the boutiques of Portuguese designers. There you will also find the famous multi-national chain shops for clothing, as well as home design shops. Moreover, in the streets of Bairro Alto, you will be able to shop from street style, alternative shops until late in the night and sometimes on Sundays too.

Typical products

You will have the opportunity to choose from hundreds of fresh products and local delicacies in the Ribeira market as well as to buy some from the most fresh fish in town. Feira da Ladra in Alfama is also one of the best markets in Portugal and takes place every Tuesday and Saturday.
