Getting around Madrid

On foot

The city center of Madrid where all the main attractions are, is suprisingly very easy to walk around. You will be able to get anywhere you like in maximum 40 minutes on foot.

By subway

The subway works daily until 01.30 a.m. and reopens at 06.00 a.m. The network is quite extensive and it is considered to be very convenient to get around and the fastest and most reliable means of transportation. The passes valid for the metro system are the same you'll use to take city buses.

By suburban railway

Using these trains you will be able to reach more areas outside the city center in a short while. Keep in mind that you need a different ticket type for these trains than the one you can use for the metro.

By bus

There are plenty of routes that serve the center and the suburbs of the city of Madrid that run quite often. Buses can take you almost everywhere in the city. There are no nightbuses yet. The passes valid for the metro system are the same you'll use to take city buses. Madrid has over 200 bus lines and special lines to the airport.
